Research contracts office (RCO) – CRCHUM

• Drafting, revising and negotiating research agreements
  
  The RCO revises and negotiates any research agreement proposed by other research centres, universities, organizations or private companies, whether it has a budget or not, before they are signed by official representatives of the CRCHUM/CHUM.
  
  The RCO drafts specific contracts for special cases as needed while also helping CHUM researchers and their teams clarify their contractual obligations and interpret applicable laws, regulations and policies.
   
• Interpretation of contract clauses
  
  The RCO helps researchers understand their contractual obligations under agreements that are being negotiated or have already been signed, as well as interpret applicable laws, regulations and policies.

The RCO is responsible for drafting and/or revising and negotiating the following contracts:

• Contracts for clinical research projects (e.g. CTAs with pharmaceutical sponsors, collaboration contracts, “Sub-Grants” with other research centres/universities, etc.).
• Contracts for non-clinical research projects (e.g. collaboration agreements, consortium agreements, etc.)
• Material transfer agreements (MTA)
• Data transfer agreements (DTA)
• Confidential disclosure agreements (CDA)
• Service contracts (with another institution or a private company)
• Consortium agreements
• Biobank agreements
• Inter-institutional agreements
• Certain grant agreements
• Any other agreement concerning a research project

Research projects requiring ethical approval: when preparing the project evaluation request on the Nagano platform, the researcher must:

• answer “yes” to the question “do you have any contractual documents to file?” on Form 11
• upload the contract to be revised/negotiated

The RCO will automatically be notified and the file will be assigned to one of our contract reviewers.

Note: Any request for contract revision from an external collaborator will be forwarded to the CHUM researcher concerned, who must submit an official request to the RCO in accordance with the procedures described above.
