As part of the Fall 2020 Project Grants competition launched by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), 14 research teams from the CHUM Research Centre (CRCHUM) were awarded more than $9 million in grants. The CRCHUM management would like to congratulate them.
With 30% of applications funded, CRCHUM’s success rate is well above the national average of 19%.
- Petronela Ancuta — Research theme: Immunopathology/Project Grant – Priority Announcement: HIV/AIDS and STBBI awarded for one year ($100,000) The Th17 Master Regulator RORC2 as a New Target for HIV Immune Therapy and Cure Strategy
- Marie-Claude Bourgeois-Daigneault — Research theme: Cancer/Project Grant awarded for five years ($768,825) To uncover, understand and exploit the estrogen-oncolytic virus crosstalk to improve therapy
- Dr. Julie Bruneau — Research theme: Innovation hub/Project Grant awarded for five years ($1,491,750) Chronic non-cancer pain, substance use, and related harms: Towards an optimal treatment pathway for people who inject drugs in the context of the opioid crisis
- Nicolas Chomont — Research theme: Immunopathology/Project Grant awarded for five years ($772,650) Single-cell approaches to characterize and target the cellular reservoirs of HIV infection
- Dr. Emmanuelle Duceppe — Research theme: Innovation hub/Project Grant awarded for five years ($1,132,200) Vascular events in patients undergoing same-day noncardiac surgery (VALIANCE) – a prospective cohort and nested biobank study
- Hassan Fahmi — Research theme: Immunopathology/Project Grant awarded for three years ($451,349) Characterizing and targeting lipocalin-type prostaglandin D2 synthase in osteoarthritis
- Dr. Simon Grandjean-Lapierre — Research theme: Immunopathology/Project Grant awarded for four years ($761,176) Tuberculosis Whole Genome Sequencing for Disease Control in Madagascar – A Cluster Randomized Controlled Trial to Evaluate Different Community-Level Strategies to Reduce the Burden of Disease
- Samuel Kadoury — Research theme: Imaging and engineering/Project Grant awarded for five years ($543,150) Multimodal Sensing Guidewire with Random Optical Gratings by Ultraviolet laser Exposure for Peripheral Vascular Interventions
- Anita Koushik — Research theme: Innovation hub/Project Grant awarded for three years ($294,526) Life course body fatness and physical activity, and ovarian cancer etiology
- Shalini Lal — Research theme: Innovation hub/Project Grant awarded for three years ($481,950) A novel web-based mental health intervention integrating peer support and clinical moderation to enhance recovery and prevent relapse in adults diagnosed with psychotic disorders: A pragmatic feasibility study of Horyzons-Canada
- Dr Dang Khoa Nguyen — Research theme: Neuroscience/Project Grant awarded for five years ($596,700) Personalized seizure forecasting to improve epilepsy management
- Manuela Santos — Research theme: Cancer/Project Grant awarded for four years ($455,176) Prevention of anastomotic leak in colorectal surgery through microbiome mediation of intestinal healing
- Naglaa Shoukry — Research theme: Immunopathology/Project Grant awarded for five years ($757,350) Role of neutrophils in liver fibrosis
- Marie-Pierre Sylvestre — Research theme: Innovation hub/Operating Grant: COVID-19 Research Gaps and Priorities awarded for two years ($457,422) Coping strategies and mental health: quantitative and qualitative insight into the COVID-19 experience in young adults
In total, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research is funding 344 researchers for an investment of $274 million.
