More Than $5.3M in CIHR Funding to Advance 6 CRCHUM Research Projects
Six teams at the Centre de recherche du CHUM (CRCHUM) have earned national recognition for the excellence of their research.
Together, they have secured more than $5.3 million from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) through the Spring 2026 Project Grant competition.
The funding will support promising research in several key areas of health research.
“In today’s highly competitive funding environment, these CIHR grants are a testament to our researchers’ commitment to advancing knowledge and to the outstanding quality of their work,” said Sylvain Baillet, Director of the CRCHUM.
Funded projects
- Thierry Alquier, a researcher in the Cardiometabolic Research Theme, has received $1,005,976 over five years for his project, Microglial lipid droplets as regulators of metabolic homeostasis.
- Adriana Di Polo, a researcher in the Neuroscience Research Theme, has received $1,185,750 over five years for her project, Mechanisms driving neuronal regeneration in glaucoma: novel strategies to promote vision restoration.
- Gabrielle Pagé, a researcher in the Innovation Hub Research Theme, has received $646,426 over five years for her project, Autonomiser les patientes et les patients dans la gestion de la douleur lombaire chronique : Essai randomisé contrôlé pragmatique d'efficacité-implantation d'un programme d'autogestion en ligne coconstruit.
- Jean-Charles Pasquier, a researcher in the Innovation Hub Research Theme, has received $420,751 over two years for his project, Étude préliminaire d'un essai randomisé contrôlé testant l'utilisation de probiotiques vaginaux sur la persistance à l'accouchement du streptocoque du groupe B détectés à 35 - 37 semaines d'aménorrhée (approche clinique et fondamentale).
- Sophie Petropoulos, a researcher in the Immunopathology Research Theme, has received $872,100 over five years for her project, The Regulatory Role of Small ncRNAs in Pluripotency and Mammalian Embryogenesis.
- Naglaa Shoukry, a researcher in the Immunopathology Research Theme, has received $1,235,476 over five years for her project, Dissecting Protective Immunity against HCV.

Across Canada, CIHR awarded $412 million in grants to 439 researchers through this competition.
