Celebrating excellence among the next generation at the CRCHUM student convention
On October 14 and 15, Université de Montréal’s affiliated hospital research centre (CRCHUM) hosted the 27th CRCHUM Student, Postdoctoral Fellows and Resident Convention, an annual event that highlights talent and creativity while showcasing an impressive array of health and biomedical research projects.
The oral presentations and scientific posters on a wide range of subjects demonstrated the quality of the work carried out by students, postdoctoral fellows and residents within our research teams.
Held under the theme of resilience, this year's convention invited the next generation of researchers to reflect on the essential qualities needed throughout a research journey: perseverance, adaptability in the face of challenges and the ability to pursue one's goals despite obstacles.
Two inspiring perspectives on resilience
During his presentation, Bernard Voyer, a distinguished explorer and speaker, took the audience on a journey around the world. Drawing on his expeditions, from the polar regions to Mount Everest, he illustrated the importance of determination, perseverance and, ultimately, learning to be resilient. He also reminded the audience that “a person grows through their own challenges.”
For her part, France Landry, a psychologist and adjunct professor at Université de Montréal, reflected on sustainable performance. Addressing the concepts of balance, motivation and psychological well-being, she encouraged participants to develop healthy resilience, both in their research journey and in their professional lives.
Excellence awards recognize outstanding projects
The highlight of the convention was the excellence awards ceremony, hosted by Nathalie Grandvaux, Associate Scientific Director, Student and Postdoctoral Affairs. The ceremony recognized the quality of the scientific posters and presentations, as well as the originality of the research projects. Accompanied by scholarships ranging from $200 to $1,000, these awards celebrate the excellence of the next generation and its contribution to the scientific vitality of the CRCHUM and the CHUM.
The ceremony took place in the presence of Marie-Ève Desrosiers, President and CEO of the CHUM, and Ekat Kritikou, Vice-Dean of Research and Development, Faculty of Medicine, Université de Montréal. Their presence demonstrated the importance placed on training and recognizing the next generation of scientists.
Congratulations to all the award recipients and participants. Thank you also to our sponsors for their invaluable support.
