As of July 1, 2025, Guy Rutter will be the new head of the CHUM Research Centre (CRCHUM) Cardiometabolic research theme for an initial four year term. He will also join the CRCHUM scientific committee.

Guy Rutter is replacing Thierry Alquier in the role. Thierry Alquier’s first term started in November 2017, and was distinguished by a strong, constant dedication to scientific excellence and an astounding talent for assembling the necessary experts for promising projects at the CRCHUM.

“Thierry Alquier was able to take advantage of the connections between different teams to guide them toward a unified and ambitious vision for the research theme. We are deeply and sincerely grateful to him for his exemplary leadership and engagement,” says Kathy Lê, Interim Director of research and innovation at CHUM.

As Guy Rutter, a CRCHUM researcher since March 2021, assumes the lead role in the research theme, he again exemplifies his work toward continuity, but also renewal, to further grow and support an accomplished dynamic scientific community in the field of health services.

The research team led by Guy Rutter, professor in Université de Montréal’s Department of Medicine, is primarily focused on the genes that alter insulin secretion, increasing the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. His team is also working to identifying biomarkers linked to diabetes, which could help personalize treatment of the disease.
