Andrés Finzi is appointed head of the CRCHUM Immunopathology Research Theme

As of September 1, 2025, Andrés Finzi will take over as head of the Immunopathology Research Theme of the CHUM Research Centre (CRCHUM) for an initial four-year term.
This appointment marks a new stage in the CRCHUM's scientific governance. He is succeeding Emmanuelle Brochiero, who has held this position since December 2020, and is joining the CRCHUM Scientific Committee.
Emmanuelle Brochiero's career illustrates a long-lasting commitment to the research community. A researcher at the CRCHUM since 2002, she is known for her altruism and dedication to the Research Centre. In 2019, she brilliantly took on interim responsibility for the research theme while the FRQS renewal application was being drafted.
In 2020, she received the CRCHUM Award of Excellence for her outstanding contribution to the institution.
“Emmanuelle embodies the spirit of the CRCHUM: rigour, generosity and commitment. She was able to mobilize the key strengths of the Immunopathology Research Theme with a clear vision and contagious energy. Her scientific and institutional contribution is invaluable,” says Kathy Lê, Interim Director of research and innovation at CHUM.
Andrés Finzi will take up the mantle in this same tradition of excellence. A professor at Université de Montréal's Faculty of Medicine and a researcher in the research theme since 2011, he is internationally regarded as a leader in the fields of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) replication and antibody effector functions.
His research team’s work has already identified several mechanisms of HIV immune evasion and contributed to the development of new therapeutic strategies.
