Dr. An Tang is named leader of the CRCHUM Imaging and Engineering research theme

As of October 1, 2025, Dr. An Tang will be the new leader of the CHUM Research Centre (CRCHUM) Imaging and Engineering research theme, for an initial four-year term.
He is taking over for Dr. Gilles Soulez and will also be joining the CRCHUM scientific committee. Dr. Soulez had been in the role since January 2022. This promotion is part of a general movement to rejuvenate CRCHUM’s scientific governance.
Dr. Soulez has been a researcher at CRCHUM since 2001. He is also head of the CHUM Department of radiology, radiation-oncology and nuclear medicine. He was awarded the 2024 CRCHUM Award of Excellence for Scientific Contribution of the Year.
“Dr. Soulez led the Imaging and Engineering research theme with foresight and consistency. We want to express our sincerest thanks for his incredible contributions to the CRCHUM’s excellence and his work to further its mission,” says Kathy Lê, Interim Director of research and innovation at CHUM.
A professor at Université de Montréal’s Faculty of Medicine (Department of radiology, radio-oncology and nuclear medicine) and a researcher in the theme since 2012, Dr. Tang has managed the Clinical Laboratory of Image Processing.
He and his research team are particularly interested in the development of biomarkers in imaging that are tied to hepatic conditions and the development of artificial intelligence techniques for radiology.
In the spring of 2025, Dr. Tang received one of six merit scholarships distributed by the FRQS throughout the province, a highly coveted honour.
