Dr. Pavel Hamet to be inducted into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame

Honoured as a pioneer of personalized medicine throughout his entire career
Dr. Pavel Hamet, researcher at the CHUM Research Centre (CRCHUM) and professor at Université de Montréal’s Faculty of Medicine, will be inducted into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame in June 2026, along with five other highly esteemed scientists.
This prestigious honour is awarded because of his significant contributions to the fields of hypertension, diabetes and genetics, which have shaped precision medicine in Canada and around the world. His induction shows the long-term impacts of his work on biomedical research.
Dr. Hamet is associated with the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) where he leads the Canada Research Chair in Predictive genomics, the Gene medicine service and the Ecogenomic platform for complex diseases.
He also founded the CHUM Research Centre, which he directed from 1996 to 2006. More recently, he received the CRCHUM’s Bâtisseur Award in 2017 and the Order of Canada in 2020.
The official ceremony will be held on June 18, 2026, in Calgary, Alberta, in collaboration with the Cumming School of Medicine at University of Calgary.
Dr. Hamet joins 167 people who have received this honour from the Hall of Fame. Every year it honours important scientific figures who have shown themselves to be exceptional leaders and who have contributed to remarkable progress in terms of human health in Canada and abroad.
