Research Interests

Dr. Roy Hajjar’s research program focuses on the interactions between the gut microbiota, the immune system, the tumor microenvironment, and colorectal cancer. He is interested in the mechanistic impact of the microbiota on surgical healing, response to chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and radiation therapy, and the impact of the intestinal barrier on carcinogenesis and intestinal inflammation. He combines translational research, mouse models, and clinical studies to identify the microbial and immuno-inflammatory mechanisms involved. His work evaluates the impact of dietary fiber, prebiotics, and nutritional supplements on wound healing and intestinal tumorigenesis, as well as their impact on patient prognosis and quality of life. The goal is to develop targeted and personalized interventions to improve surgical and oncological outcomes in intestinal surgery.
