Job description

Associate Professor Sarah Larney is recruiting a research assistant to contribute to work on various epidemiological and evidence synthesis projects relating to people who use drugs (e.g. opioids, cocaine, methamphetamine) and related health issues, including hepatitis C and HIV infection, overdose, and sexually transmitted infections. Specific projects include analyses of the epidemiology of mortality in people who inject drugs; the experience of aging as a person who uses illicit drugs; and incidence of HIV, hepatitis C, and syphilis in people who inject drugs.


Responsabilities

This person will:

  • Contribute to research projects and evidence syntheses on the health and wellbeing of people who use drugs (e.g. undertake literature reviews, perform statistical analyses, contribute to or lead manuscript writing)
  • Contribute to the development of grant applications on topics related to the health and wellbeing of people who use drugs
  • In collaboration with other team members, manage administrative and operational aspects of active research projects (e.g. reporting, publication planning, ensuring responsible conduct of research)
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in public health, epidemiology, or related discipline, or previous experience as a research assistant in a related area
  • Experience in contributing to research projects in relation to at least one of: statistical analysis; writing protocols and managing ethical review processes; writing a thesis or manuscripts for publication 
  • English proficiency is essential for this role as it requires considerable reading and interpretation of scientific papers written in English
