We are looking for a Ph.D. candidate to join our neurobiology laboratory focused on multiple sclerosis (MS). Dr. Prat is a clinician-researcher, neurologist, and expert in neurosciences and immunology. He is full professor at the University of Montreal.

Job description 

The Prat laboratory is seeking doctoral candidates in neurosciences and immunology to join its experienced team focused on the interaction of immune cells with the blood-brain and the blood-meningeal barriers in the context of MS. Our team is part of a large pan-Canadian study on MS biomarkers (CanProCo), which examines peripheral blood mononuclear cells, serum, plasma, MRI, and clinical data, and we conduct various other studies on biomarkers. We are at the forefront of MS research and collaborate with other internationally renowned groups.

As part of an innovative impactful project, the student will have the opportunity to develop skills and acquire new knowledge, particularly in multiparametric flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, the use of murine models, working with primary cultures of human and murine neurons, and bioinformatics analyses. State-of-the-art technical platforms are available in our new ultramodern research center. The student will be expected to communicate their results to the scientific community at international conferences and peer-reviewed publications. Their enthusiasm for work will contribute to the visibility of our team and the research center. The student will have numerous opportunities for excellence scholarships.

 

Qualifications

  • Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Neuroscience, Immunology or related fields, laboratory experience is an asset.
  • Excellent proficiency in French and English is required to interact with an international team comprising students from diverse backgrounds, as well as personnel from other collaborating centers.
  • Experience in cell culture, blood sample processing, knowledge of R, or experience with large datasets are assets.
  • Organizational skills, ability to work harmoniously in a team, and adaptability are qualities sought in the candidate.
