The remarkable commitment and long-standing dedication to the Parkinson’s community of Line Beaudet, a researcher at the CHUM Research Centre, were recognized at the end of April with the presentation of the King Charles III Coronation Medal during a ceremony organized by Parkinson Québec.

This distinguished commemorative distinction was created to honour Canadians who contributed, mainly behind the scenes, to the advancement of Canada and the well-being of Canadian society locally, nationally and internationally.

“Mission accomplished! This distinction highlights the scope of our work across Québec and Canada for my team and me,” says Line Beaudet, associate professor at Université de Montréal’s Faculty of Nursing. “Thanks to our research, which focuses on creating and deploying interventions based on solid clinical and scientific foundations, we are enriching the knowledge of communities affected by Parkinson’s disease, preventing health problems, and preserving the quality of life of those with the disease and their carers.”

“This mobilization of experience and knowledge also benefits families, communities, healthcare environments and society as a whole.”

An exceptional woman

Earlier this year, the Parkinson Québec and Parkinson Canada team nominated Beaudet to the office of the Governor General of Canada.

In a letter to Beaudet, Karen Lee, President and CEO of Parkinson Canada, and Caroline Champeau, CEO of Parkinson Québec, express their deepest gratitude. They highlight the passion, the magnitude of her achievements and the positive impact that her work continues to have on people with Parkinson’s disease.

“As a researcher, creator and invaluable contributor to our organization, you have combined scientific rigour, innovation and humanity. Through the creation of TAVIE en mouvement, you have opened up a new pathway to support people living with the disease, offering them concrete tools to better understand, manage and live with the disease. ”

A source of inspiration

In 2021, Beaudet and her research team developed the TAVIE en mouvement virtual intervention platform. They did so in partnership with Parkinson Québec and in collaboration with people living with Parkinson’s disease and their families.

This platform features a series of informative video clips providing practical resources for dealing with the challenges related to the disease.

These sessions, led by a virtual nurse, are available for free in English and French on the Parkinson Québec website.

“Thank you for your ongoing support of the research teams, both established and emerging, who are committed to improving care and services for the public every day,” says Line Beaudet.
