The CHUM Microbiome Center headed by Dr. Bertrand Routy is looking for a research assistant to carry out translational research and fundamental experiments, collecting patient samples in clinical studies aimed at modifying the microbiota in oncology.
Our team is working on the link between gut microbiota and response to cancer immunotherapy.
Our projects include basic research on the impact of bacteria in the response to cancer immunotherapies, a biobank and prospective clinical studies (NCT04951583, NCT05303493 and NCT05805319) testing different strategies, including fecal transplantation, prebiotics, probiotics and diet, to improve the composition of the microbiome for people with lung cancer and melanoma treated with immunotherapy.
Responsibilities
As a Clinical Research Assistant, this person will be responsible for:
- Supervise master's and PhD students and participate in assisting them in the execution of research projects such as DNA extraction, PCR, flow cytometry and in vitro experiments.
- Participate in animal experiments. Tumor injection, measurement and dissection.
- Prepare and process human samples such as blood, stool, tissue or others according to protocol recommendations and good laboratory practice (such as centrifugation of blood samples for isolation of plasma, serum, erythrocytes or peripheral blood mononuclear cells).
- Manage laboratory orders and daily activities with the help of a research assistant
- Organize and ship human specimens in compliance with Transportation of Dangerous Goods Regulations
- Train new staff
- Visit various CHUM departments (e.g. endoscopy), to meet patients already contacted by the research nurse,
- Have patients sign consent forms,
- Work closely with students, research nurse, research coordinator in charge of studies and other team members.
Qualifications
- Scientific background: PhD level in health sciences (microbiology, immunology or related field)
- Research experience
- Excellent knowledge of online questionnaire management
- Experience in data management
- Basic experience with SPSS statistical software
- Excellent verbal and written English skills.
- Autonomy, rigor, meticulousness, dynamism and resourcefulness
- Excellent interpersonal, time management and problem-solving skills.

- 12-month contract, renewable annually (with three months' probation)
