Cancer Axis

The Cancer Axis is situated on the 10th floor of the CRCHUM, wherein multiple collaborative projects take place amongst teams focusing on different cancer types and innovative approaches. 

Job Description 

Under the supervision of Dr. Saima Hassan, the post-doctoral fellow will work in her translational research laboratory in breast cancer. The project will involve the use of liquid biopsies to improve detection of breast cancer in different contexts including young women. This is a collaborative and 
well-funded project of high clinical impact in which the post-doctoral fellow will need to assume leadership. The fellow will also work on PARP inhibitor combination projects, to evaluate mechanism in in-vivo models with flow cytometry, IF, IHC.

Responsibilities

This person will be responsible for:

  • Skills in molecular biology techniques, including RNA/DNA extraction from blood samples, patient-derived models including organoids, mice treatment studies, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry, transfection, and viral transduction.
  • Data analysis and project management
  • Will help to teach techniques to graduate and undergraduate students within lab
  • Writing abstracts, posters/presentations for conferences, and manuscripts in English
  • Will apply for bursary fellowships
     
Qualifications
  • Should have completed their PhD within the last 2-4 years
  • Should have background in cancer research
  • Should have a minimum of one or two first-authored publications
  • Ideal candidates will be competitive for Banting/CIHR/FRQS bursary applications
  • Must have good knowledge in speaking and writing French and English
  • Collaborative and respectful of lab members, dynamic, efficient, honest and professional
  • Flexible, concerned about getting the job well done, independent, attentive to detail, very organized
  • Bioinformatics skills will be an added advantage
  • Background in translational/clinical research will be an added advantage
