Exploitation of Research Results and Technology Transfer

The exploitation of research results in university settings consists of adding value, commercial or otherwise, to research results, knowledge or to an existing intervention or technology.

This value can be transformed into innovative products, processes, services or technology that can be accessed by society (target audience).

Exploiting research means giving it a value other than the one it already has. It means making knowledge, skills and research results operational or marketable.

- To accelerate the progress and impact of science;
- To contribute to the social and economic development of Quebec and Canada;
- To maintain the country’s technological competitiveness;
- To diversify research funding options.
Throughout the exploitation process, the Technology Transfer Office supports the CRCHUM’s scientific community (researchers, clinician scientists, employees, postdoctoral fellows and students) and offers strategic advice and guidance.
- Educate the CRCHUM community about exploiting research results and about intellectual property;
- Ensure compliance with policies and regulations in effect between the CHUM and Université de Montréal;
- Guide researchers throughout the entire technology transfer process.
- Identify innovative research projects with exploitation potential;
- Develop an action plan in collaboration with the researcher in order to allow the project to achieve its full potential;
- Incorporate the strategy for publishing scientific results into an approach for protecting intellectual property;
- Advise researchers in their efforts to secure funding and to exploit their research results;
- Promote projects involving the exploitation of research results to relevant partners.
