Research Interests

  • Investigation of the influence of different risks factors (aging, cigarette smoking, diabetes, hypercholesterolemia) on neovascularization in response to ischemia.
  • Characterization of the influence of physiologic or excessive oxidative stress on ischemia-induced neovascularization.
  • Role of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) in postnatal neovascularization in the presence of different risks factors and/or in conditions of increased oxidative stress.
  • Our studies combine in vivo experiments on genetically modified mice, in vitro studies using different cell cultures (primary endothelial cells, HUVECs, EPCs, etc.) and molecular biology experiments. Some of our studies involve gene and/or cell therapies.
