Professor Vidal's research and clinical work focus on embolization. He has described two new concepts: emborrhoid, which is the embolization of the superior rectal arteries for the treatment of hemorrhoids, and fairEmbo, which is embolization by permanent and absorbable suture. The latter opens up the possibility of using this inexpensive and widely available embolization agent in hospitals worldwide, especially in emerging countries.

The FairEmbo (Fair Embolization) project has demonstrated that expensive and non-available occluding agents in emerging countries can be easily and effectively replaced with simple fragments of surgical sutures. These suture fragments (threads or non-spherical particles) are available anywhere in the world, at any time and at very low cost. The use of these sutures, instead of more conventional agents, allows local interventional radiologists to perform embolization and save lives.

Professor Vidal received his MD and PhD from the School of Medicine of Aix-Marseille University. He completed his research fellowship at the University of Toronto (Canada) and his clinical and research fellowship at the University of Montreal (Canada) in 2003-2004.

Professor Vidal is a guest of Dr. Gilles Soulez, Imaging and engineering, Research Theme

The goal of the Interdisciplinary conferences is to allow you to learn more about the work of our researchers and to encourage collaborations among the Research Centre’s different Research Themes.

They are intended for the entire scientific community of the CRCHUM and are offered two to three times per month.
