Research Interests

Identification of the mechanisms of motor neuron degeneration in the nervous system, particularly in the case of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Evaluation of misfolded SOD1 and mitochondrial dysfunction in ALS.

RNA binding proteins such as TDP-43, FUS, and other hnRNP family members in ALS pathogenesis, Stress granules and processing bodies.

Complementary and multidisciplinary approaches involving transgenic rodent models, tissue cultures, and isolated organelles are used. Technologies include biochemistry, cellular biology, proteomics, immunocytochemistry and advanced microscopy (confocal and electron).

Neuroscience

The mission of the Neuroscience research theme is to elucidate the biological, environmental and social mechanisms of neurological diseases and to develop novel and innovative therapies to prevent, treat or cure them. The research activities are grouped into five themes, incorporating clinica…
